It hit me this morning that our home-school community starts back up in one month. Yikes! I best get myself in gear and make sure I have what we need on hand.
We have done several different things through the years in our home-school journey and have loved several of them. Our current journey is one I am so glad we are on. Once my first 4 kids hit 7th grade we started in the Challenge A program of Classical Conversations. My oldest graduated from the Challenge 4 program last year, and my youngest is starting Challenge A this year. She is very excited to start her journey after watching her older 4 siblings go through it.
We love the community that Classical Conversations (CC) brings them. Being able to meet once a week with other students and discuss ideas is an amazing thing. It was so fun watching through each level as they read, discussed, and developed their own thoughts and ideas about life. The discussions were lively at times and they learned they didn’t always have to agree with their peers. That they can disagree on topics and still be friends. They could argue and have opinions and still listen and hear someone else’s perspectives.
I also love the structure and accountability it brought. My kids have learned to be self learners, you don’t have to know everything, but you have to be able to find answers. Having a class to attend once a week, with other students who are working on the same things gave accountability. They don’t want to be the one to show up and not have their work done when all the other students have done theirs.
I also love the curriculum, the books they read and the things they study. The Classical education has been so rewarding for our family. I will talk more about what each level studies in a later blog.
I’m excited for this year of homeschooling – for the challenges, fun, and growth it will bring!
