My oldest daughter turned 18 this month. She said since it’s her last party she wanted a theme from her childhood. She choose Tangled. Just like Rapunzel who sings “When Will My Life Begin”, my daughter is looking at the possibilities of her life truly starting as an adult. There are so many possibilities and God has blessed her with so many gifts. She is a wonderful artist, she has a servants heart, she is kind to all around her, and her desire is to help others.
Like Rapunzel, she has led a rather sheltered life, and is fearful of the unknown outside the walls she knows. The sheer number of options overwhelms her, and she wonders if the outside holds only those who would harm her, take from her, or use her. The family takes turns giving encouraging words to the birthday boy or girls every year, and this year was extra special as we all encouraged the gifts that we already see in her. My husband made several connections to the movie and her own life. He loves movies and their symbolism, and spoke into her fear, reminding her WHO she was and who she represents. The unknown is still intimidating, and she may not know the exact path she will walk, but her heart of peace, her love of beauty, and her soul meant for serving will lead the way. I can’t wait to see the magic she unlocks!

We had a lot of fun decorating. My youngest loves to draw and helped me with making the “Flynn Ryder” drawing, the “Snuggly Duckling” sign, and the “Best Day Ever” banner. We had the Tangled movie playing in the background.

Not all the food was themed, we had meatballs, and ham and swiss sliders as well.
- Braids – cinnamon and sugar pretzels
- Mother Gothel Berries
- Thugs & Ruffians Meat & Cheese Tray
- Maximus Apples with caramel dip
- Golden Flower punch – Lemonade, orange juice, ginger ale
- Purple punch – Vanilla ice cream with grape soda

My favorite thing to make was the cupcakes with edible flowers and leaves. The tower was ice cream cones stacked. I thought the sparkler candles were going to be fun, but let me tell you, by the time I got the 1 lit, they were done singing the birthday song. The 1 burned out before the 8 got lit, and the 8 caught the cupcake papers on fire. lol. All in all it was very memorable, but I don’t recommend using sparkler candles in the future.

The evening was a fun time to celebrate this milestone in my daughters life. She loved the fun, creative details, and the delicious food. Most of all she enjoyed the time spent with family who love her. I can’t wait to see what her future holds.
