My middle daughters birthday was this past week. She chose a theme that was one of the more difficult for me. My husband and kids love to play video games, one of their favorites is Skyrim. I don’t play and so didn’t know many of the elements of the game. After some online searching and studying I also began to discover that there were no ready made decorations so I would have to create this from scratch. With some input from my husband who would say yay or nay to certain elements I think we pulled off a pretty good party.

Skyrim is an RPG style game, meaning Role Playing Game. You choose your character, and level them up with skill-based upgrades depending on your interests and what you spend your time doing in the game. What a great analogy for a teenage girl life! You get to choose almost every aspect of your being, and your future will be set depending on the choices you make. You will advance the hobbies, interests, and skills you choose to spend your time on.
Each character race has specific inborn talents, or special benefits. We reminded her that she was born with some pre-set skills and blessings, and she needed to use them wisely as she makes her choices. We can’t wait to see the hero she becomes!

I love the medieval/ renaissance feel of the party theme. I got some castle door backdrops along with windows, and torches to hang around the room. Mixed with some dragon themed stuff. My husband came into the house a few days before the party all excited to show my daughter a moth wing. Apparently she loves to use magic and potions in the game, and the wing looked like a Luna moth from the game. After showing it to her he was going to throw it away, I saved it from that fate and displayed it in a glass jar on the mantle. You have to get creative and use what you can. lol
For food we didn’t go themed, although I did purchase a Skyrim cookbook as a decoration and because my daughter loves to cook things, from the books she reads, the games she plays, and the shows she watches. I needed something a little easier for a week night party. She requested a shell lasagna, with bread, and salad. For desert she wanted macrons and cherry pie.

I searched and found printable maps and symbols online. The symbol on the end of the pictures below is the quest symbol. I showed it to my hubby who said no, don’t use that it’s not important. Well I happened to show it to my daughter as well and she informed me it was very important. So we printed it and put it on the door as the party was the quest. I found some plain vases and attached the maps of Skyrim to them, with candles inside the vases they were a fun addition.
