Crockpot Yogurt

Yogurt has become a staple in my home lately.  My kids love it and ask for it daily, but it is so expensive to buy for 4 children and myself.  So I did some searching and found you can make it in your crockpot.  I was so excited, so I thought I would share the recipe, because it is so easy and so cheap, and so much better for you than store bought yogurt.

  • 8Cups Whole Milk (anything less doesn’t work for me)
  • 1/2 cup yogurt (store bought the first time but you can save some and freeze it from your first batch and use it next time you make it, and don’t use Dannon it’s cultures are not strong enough.)

Put 8 cups of whole milk in your crock put on low for 2 1/2 hrs.  Unplug your crock pot after 2 1/2 hrs.  Let sit for 3 hrs.  Remove 2cups of warmed milk and wisk it with 1/2 cup of yogurt.  Wisk into crockpot.  Cover and wrap with towel or blanket.  Let sit 8hrs or overnight. And you have a fresh batch of homemade yogurt.

You can add whatever you want to it.

I usually add some sugar and vanilla and my kids love it just like that.  But if you want to be healthier you could add honey or just fruit.

Also forgot to add if you want thicker yogurt add about a 1/2 cup of powdered milk when you mix the yogurt and warmed milk.

Wow, you have NO IDEA how much I appreciate this….Lisa has a processed milk allergy and the two things for which I cannot substitute satisfactorily in recipes are cream cheese and yogurt. Now I can make this with her raw milk and use it in recipes for her! Thanks so much!

I’m so glad it was helpful to you. 🙂 I make up at least two batches a month.
